West Richland Area Chamber of Commerce The Chamber received a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs; Veterans Day National Committee stating the Chamber’s Regional Veterans Day Parade was approved to be recognized as a National Regional Site. They will notify Governor Gregoire of our selection and encourage support from Olympia. The Department of Defense will also be notified and the Veterans Affairs Dept. will request a military liaison officer be assigned to coordinate local military ceremonial support where available. The parade is listed on the Veterans Affairs website at www1.va.gov/opa/vetsday/regsites.asp The West Richland Chamber hosted the first parade in 2000 with 37 entries. It has continued to grow every year with over 100 entries last year. The original idea for the Chamber of Commerce to host a Veterans Day Parade came from former Chamber President Bruce Etzel as a way for us to recognize local veterans. There has always been strong support for Veterans in our area and we thank the American Citizens Encouraging Support (A.C.E.S.), the Combat Veterans International local Chapter 3, and of course, the leaders of our parade every year the West Richland VFW Post 12018 for their continued support of the Parade over the years. It is the combined effort of this community that makes it strong and a great place to live and work. The parade will be on November 8th this year and we are already accepting applications. If you are interested in being in the parade or would like to volunteer, please call the Chamber office at 509-967-0521. |
